Sara Huang (registered name Yiqing Huang) is a Registered Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner and Registered Acupuncturist (R. TCMP, R. Ac) who sees patients at iGood Health Centre in Richmond Hill. She is registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO), holds a General certificate of registration, and provides care in English and Mandarin.
Sara provides acupuncture assessment and treatment, follow-up acupuncture visits and cosmetic acupuncture at our clinic. People commonly book acupuncture as part of their care for neck, back or shoulder pain, headaches, stress or sleep concerns. Your first visit is used to decide whether acupuncture is a suitable option for you and how it fits with any other care you are receiving.
Prices are taken from our online booking system and can change; the price shown when you book is the one that applies.

Your first appointment starts with a health history and questions about your main concern, as well as your sleep, digestion, energy and stress. As part of a traditional Chinese medicine assessment, Sara may also look at your tongue and check your pulse. She then explains the treatment plan and the points she intends to use before starting. Single-use sterile needles are used for every treatment. Most people feel a brief pinch or a dull, heavy sensation at the point, and you can ask her to stop or adjust at any time. Before you leave, she will suggest how often to come back and what to watch for between visits.
This treatment, sometimes called facial acupuncture, uses very fine needles on the face, usually together with a few body points. Before the session, Sara reviews your skin-care goals, any recent cosmetic procedures or injections, and anything that could make facial needling unsuitable for you. Results vary from person to person, and a series of visits is usually discussed rather than a single session.
Sara offers care in English and Mandarin, so patients who prefer Mandarin can describe their symptoms and ask questions in the language they are most comfortable with. Let our front desk know your preferred language when you book.

Many extended health plans include acupuncture when it is provided by a registered acupuncturist or traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. Coverage amounts and the credentials a plan accepts vary, so check with your insurer before your visit. You will receive a receipt for each visit to submit to your plan, and our front desk can tell you whether your claim can be billed directly. OHIP does not cover acupuncture.
Eat a light meal beforehand, wear loose clothing that can be rolled up above the elbows and knees, and bring a list of your medications. Tell Sara if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder, a pacemaker or another implanted device, or a strong fear of needles.

Most people can return to their usual day straight after a visit. Some notice mild soreness, a small bruise where a needle was placed, or feel tired or a little light-headed for a short time. Drink some water, get up slowly, and avoid hard exercise for the rest of the day if you feel drained. If anything feels unusual or lasts longer than a day or two, call the clinic so she can review it with you.
Acupuncture is used alongside, not instead of, care from your family doctor. Keep taking your prescribed medications unless your doctor advises otherwise, and see a physician promptly for new, severe or worsening symptoms. If you also see our chiropractor, physiotherapy team or massage therapist, Sara can coordinate with them, with your consent, so your visits are planned around each other.
You can book with Sara online at any time, or call (905) 771-7177. iGood Health Centre is at 60 Granton Drive, Unit 1, Richmond Hill. If you are not sure acupuncture is the right fit, ask about a free 15-minute acupuncture consultation. To learn more about the service itself, visit our acupuncture in Richmond Hill page. Acupuncture can also be combined with chiropractic care, physiotherapy or massage therapy at the same clinic.
